A Montclair, NJ native, Shakera is an accomplished vocalist and music educator who writes and composes her music, while creating soulful arrangements of jazz standards. She attended Temple University's Esther Boyer College of Music and from there the Shakera Jones Quartet was born. Since then, she has developed a style all her own winning audiences with her sultry voice, impressive range, personal lyrics and jazz/soul influenced accompaniment.

Shakera has performed at all the premier jazz venues in Philadelphia, which include Ortlieb's Jazz Haus, Zanzibar Blue, Chris Jazz Cafe, the Clef Club as well as in New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.c., Indianapolis, Cincinatti and Dayton. Shakera has had the pleasure of performing with jazz greats like, Mickey Roker, Sid Simmons, Orrin Evans, Tim Warfield, Byron Landham, Robert Bootsie Barnes, Mike Boone, Mike Wade, and Eddie Bayard.

Know yourself before sharing yourself with someone else...

This was just one of the many themes at the latest Daphney J. Event. Held at the Studio by London Eye, it was very informative, intimate and thought provoking afternoon. The amazing panelist included Life Coach Naimah Raheem, Mentor & Relationship Expert Antonee James, and Mental Health Counselor/Author- Professor Gwendolyn Hinton MS

Special Guest speaker Stephan Speaks-Certified Relationship coach & Author - had many of us ladies laughing as we took a hard look at ourselves and our actions when it came to the opposite sex.

Catered by Sunsplash Caribbean Bakery in Orange, NJ, The Stew Chicken, Mac & Cheese, Plantains, and Rice & Peas were rockin'!

Delicious rum cocktails were provided and mixed by Jersey Artisan Distilling located in Fairfield, NJ. Both the food and the drinks were a perfect compliment for the evening. We enjoyed a nice rum cider, which sounded and tasted like a great drink for the fall. Look out for more info regarding this local distillery as we certainly look forward to enjoying more drinks from them in the future.

Finally, we left feeling empowered and renewed. It was an entertaining time full of laughs and surprisingly open moments. Cheers to the next Daphney J. Event!
